Magnet links and URLs are here!

July 26, 2012 4:36 am / Leave a Comment / Boxopus

Hey boys and girls!

We loved to read your feedback and your ideas! It was amazing to feel support from all of you! Now it’s time for us to start answering some of your requests. We hope you’ll like it. So here are our updates for today:

Idea contest: Although, some nice ideas were sent, some people just used the “Submit Idea” form to send messages asking for support or tell us something that was discussed many times. But it’s OK. That helped us understand how users see our service. We’ve stopped the idea collection process and will review all submissions within several days.

Cloud storage: we haven’t finished negotiations with any of the services, they are still going on and hopefully result in fruitful cooperation really soon.

New features: The most asked-for feature in recent weeks was magnet link support. We thought that we couldn’t wait until we partner up with cloud services and decided to implement the feature as soon as we can. So there you have it! ;) Now there’s an additional tab on your Downloads page which allows you to paste a magnet link into the form and download it! Moreover, we now also allow http links to be pasted and downloaded. You don’t need to download torrent files anymore. Simply copy the link or magnet link, paste it into the form and let Boxopus download it for you! Isn’t it something? We hope that it will simplify your downloading experience and make it more enjoyable.

Have fun with your content! Happy downloading with Boxopus! ;)

Boxopus is moving forward

July 10, 2012 4:25 am / Leave a Comment / Boxopus

Hey everyone!

Boxopus is moving forward. We have some news for you that will hopefully cheer you up!

First of all, we continue to negotiate with various services about partnership. Chances are high that you’ll see Boxopus up and running really soon.

While you wait we’re happy to announce a temporal feature for you: direct download. As you know we can’t deliver files to your Dropbox at the moment but we can let you download them from our servers. This way your downloads will be anonymous as before and no cloud storage service has to be assigned to Boxopus. When we start working with a new cloud your files will be delivered to your devices again and direct download will be disabled.

We would also like to ask you to share some ideas with us because we know how creative you are. How do you think we could change file-sharing world with the current Boxopus concept? 10 best ideas will be rewarded with $50 Amazon gift cards! To submit your ideas head to Boxopus.com, sign in and fill the form at the top of the page. It’s that simple.

Let’s evolve together! Thanks for being with us!

Dropbox disconnects Boxopus for unwanted features.

June 25, 2012 11:09 pm / 1 Comment / Boxopus

Boxopus was released to public beta only a couple of weeks ago. Since then it has gained attention of several popular tech blogs such as Torrentfreak, Lifehacker, Venturebeat. Number of users grew fast and hit 50,000 within several days after media coverage. We believe all this happened because the idea behind our service is simple yet appealing. Boxopus integrates cloud file storage service provided by Dropbox and Bittorrent protocol which seems like a really demanded combination of file-sharing solutions.

However, on the 25th of June Dropbox pulled the plug for Boxopus and blocked access to its API. The company explained its move with the following: “It’s come to our attention that latest Boxopus features could be perceived as encouraging users to violate copyright using Dropbox… We recommend removing Dropbox integration from Boxopus.”. This has come as a surprise to us because the app was in full compliance of DMCA and Dropbox Terms of Service.

This behaviour makes it hard to believe that developers are treated fairly and innovation is welcomed at Dropbox. It seems like legit and pre-approved applications may be blocked simply by someone’s will although they act within the scope of company’s terms and international laws. While Boxopus operations are paralyzed we have started negotiations with other cloud file storage services to find a replacement for Dropbox.

We feel awful for our users and hope we can resolve this really soon! All your download requests will be paused and resumed when we’re ready.

Be sure that we’re working on this and we hope for your understanding!
